In 1879, while looking for pastureland, Dr. George Swan came upon a bubbling spring that Native Americans had long held sacred. He purchased the land and transformed 12 acres around the spring with a great pavillion, trees, and walkways, creating the Vita Park and Hotel complex. Visitors journeyed from as far as Europe to the spa’s luxury and professed healing properties of the water flowing from the Sacred Springs.
